I’ve started attending an event in Fargo called 1 Million Cups. It’s a nationwide gathering weekly where 1-2 people discuss their business idea and get feedback from the audience. The name refers to the free coffee served when you show up. Emerging Prairie hosts the 1 Million Cups event in Fargo, the largest in the country. It’s an awesome learning experience and a chance to meet and hear from wonderful people doing amazing work. One theme that I hear often is the importance of service to others. The idea of “giving” came up multiple times in yesterday’s talks. Giving isn’t about receiving, and you shouldn’t expect anything in return. Give without expectation of anything in return. Help others not to be seen as charitable, or to garner a favor, or for some marketing/PR campaign. Give and help because you genuinely want to give and help. Be authentic in what you’re doing.
