I heard something once from I believe Dan John, and it goes like this. Let’s say you decide to eat 3 apples a day. How many apples do you have right now in your house? If you shop once a week, you need 21 apples to get you through. How many of us decide to try or do something but haven’t fully prepared for what that entails. If you are going to create a new habit, plan forward enough to ensure that you won’t run out of apples. Why? Because if you don’t, when you run out of apples you probably won’t go buy more. You’ll come up with a reason to not eat 3 apples that day. Be ready. Prepare for what you want to do. If you want to drink a protein shake in the morning, buy a shaker bottle, measure out the powder the night before, and set it next to the fridge. Now you just need to fill with water and go. If you want to work out, bring your clothes to work with you. Don’t rely on going home, getting changed, and then going back out. Reduce friction.
