Have you ever re-read something years later and found it meant something else to you? You read it differently or you interpret it from a different perspective? Maybe you didn’t quite have enough knowledge the first time and can better comprehend it a second. This happens to me often. I re-read strength and conditioning articles and books and find they take on new meaning. I re-listen to podcasts and videos and learn new concepts I hadn’t “seen” before. I think this applies to the physical realm as well. At 30, strength to me means something different than it did 10 years ago. And I’m sure strength will take on a new meaning when I’m 50 years old. I found myself this morning reflecting on a document I created back in 2009 called, “Accumulated training knowledge.” I would summarize articles and books in a document and periodically review it to refresh my memory. What’s funny is that looking back now I can see some ideas were very silly and some have really stood the test of time. When you look at where you are, remember where you’ve been, and where you want to go. Don’t be afraid to look at old ideas with a fresh pair of eyes, and understand that over time your perspective on certain topics is likely (hopefully) to change.
