The exercises we choose are not specific to a certain gender or age group. Squats and bench presses are not just for football players. There is a myth out there that women should only do certain movements for certain reps, and that to do otherwise would make the lifter bulky, less feminine, or what have you. The trainers peddling this nonsense have a vast social media following, which is a shame because many use their influence to disseminate patently false information. Squats, presses, deadlifts, and benching are useful for everyone, at all ages, and for every gender. Sure, depending on the situation some folks can’t begin with a barbell squat(too weak, body composition issues, certain injuries, etc…) By and large, though most will begin with some derivative of the main movement, and progressively work their way up. Be wary of those with large followings selling shady strength training advice.
