Meditation has gotten popular. Or maybe it was always popular and only now does it seem like everyone’s doing it. There are lots of different ways to meditate, and I’m not even sure how to define it. I don’t practice it in the formal sense we think of it, but I’ve often felt like lifting and exercise served a similar purpose. A singular focus of the mind to lift a given weight. My best lifting has come when I can unburden myself of distraction and just be present during that set. Wipe the mind clean, trust that my body is strong enough, and strain against the bar 1 rep at a time. I think for those going through any emotional or mental challenges could benefit from having some strength training in their lives. It gives an anchor in your schedule, an outlet to keep your way during the rough times. There are lots of things outside of your control, but getting in the gym and doing the work is 1 thing you can.
